Still healed of cancer
August 20, 2008 at 3:16pm Hello Friends, Once again God has proven himself to me. I had a PET scan this past Friday and I am still free and clear of cancer. When God heals you of cancer, you stay clear of cancer. Praise the Lord. Some of you may not have heard my testimony and some have. But I never get tired of telling it. Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a partial mastectomy and they scheduled me for 8 rounds of chemo therapy and 36 treatments of radiation. The chemo made me very sick. I would have three bad weeks and then one good week before I went back for another treatment. On my fourth round of chemo, I became sick even before I left the oncologist office. They had to stop treatment several times for me to throw up. It was as if my body was saying, "that's enough, no more." I was scheduled to have the 5th treatment at the hospital because of the danger it could cause to my heart. I had gone in for the blood work and registered for the treatment. This was my one good week, so I met my family in Pigeon Forge for a family reunion with my mom, stepfather, sister, 2 brothers, and their spouses. We had a great time of family togetherness. It was the first time they had seen me slick bald. On the last night of the reunion, we all gathered for prayer. As we joined hands in a circle and began to pray. My youngest brother, Bill, prayed a wonderful, dynamic prayer. I felt a great touch from God from the top of my head to my toes. Growing up in a minister's home, I was always taught to close my eyes during a prayer. I wish this one time I had not obeyed. My husband says the room was filled with a white cloud of God's spirit. I would have loved to see it. We returned home and I knew I was healed. I got a call from the oncologist's office. They were canceling the final 4 chemo treatments. The doctor had said, these were not necessary, although I know of others who had to have their final 4 treatments. I know this was God sparing me from damage to my heart or further sickness. He is so good to me. I still had to have the 36 radiation treatments, but they were not so bad. I did get quite a burn from them, but God helped me through them. It has been eight years now and God is still showing me he cares for me and loves me. How can I do anything but praise him. Betty Ward Cain www.bedfordpublications.com |
Under The Shadow Of The Almighty
![]() This is Betty Ward Cain's account of the year she had Breast Cancer. She changed the names because she just couldn't relive this horrible year so she wrote the true accounts as if they happened to someone else. Life was good for Belinda. She was beginning a new year of teaching. She had a new pastor at church who inspired her to make a difference. She was piloting a new curriculum in her classroom. Belinda was on cloud nine and felt her life was right on track. Then she got the doctor's phone call. This is an autobiographical story of dealing with breast cancer while staying in the shadow of the Almighty. Read how God came to her rescue time and time again as she put it all into his hands. The author found that humor helped her to cope with those times when she felt traumatized. She found ways to laugh at her predicaments. As a teacher, wife, mother and grandmother, Belinda has many problems other than cancer to deal with. She deals with difficult issues at school. There are health issues for her husband, her mother and for herself. The idleness of not being able to do things makes her feel useless and unproductive. But no matter what comes her way, Belinda remains under the shadow of the Almighty. |
Shy Sharon is a chapter book for students ages 8-12. It details the author's own experience with salvation and how it changed her life. Bashful Betty (the author's nickname as a child) is the character, Shy Sharon, in the book and the experiences are mostly true accounts of the author's life.
Sharon is a shy daughter of the new minister in town. She doesn't like to talk to people and especially people she doesn't know. How can she go to kindergarten? Who will talk for her? Why does Larry not like her? Sharon desperately wants to fit in, but her shyness makes her too afraid. Will she ever find a friend? |
Shy Sharon is a chapter book written by Betty Ward Cain. The book tells the story of a young girl growing up in the 1950s. She is extremely shy, but she eventually learns how to cope and gains some confidence along the way. As her relationship with Jesus grows, her fears disappear.
This book is targeted toward children ages 6-8. It can be used in a homeschool setting as supplemental reading material, but I don't believe it was written specifically for homeschooled children.
The strength of this story is in the lesson it tries to teach children about overcoming weaknesses and finding shelter in Jesus Christ. I like that the author was able to show how Sharon relied on God and not on others to combat her fears. The author also emphasizes that being young should not discourage a child from seeking God.
There are many elements of the story that did not need to be included (like the time that Sharon went to the bathroom outside); some of these things are, in my opinion, not appropriate for the audience. I appreciate the author's heart and her intentions in writing this book. Through this story, Betty Ward Cain made clear the offer of God's free gift of salvation for the young and old alike.

This is a compilation of photographs and stories from Betty’s childhood to her marriage. These nostalgic stories bring the reader back in time to their grandmother’s era of making mud pies to catching lightning bugs. Betty is transparent enough to tell of her mistakes (even the embarrassing ones) and gives her grandchildren advice about how to avoid making the same mistakes. Come look over her shoulder, listen and learn. You will be laughing, crying and rejoicing.
